Loris Karius is still the name on every football fan’s lips after his disastrous performance in the Champions League final on Saturday night. The 24-year-old’s two mistakes, which gifted goals to Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale, cost Liverpool dearly in Kiev.Jurgen Klopp’s side eventually lost 3-1, although the outcome of the match might have been very different had Karius not messed up so badly. The German goalkeeper, who was in floods of tears after the game, has apologised profusely to everybody associated with Liverpool Football Club - his teammates, coaching staff and the supporters.“I know that I messed it up with the two mistakes and let you all down,” Karius wrote in three emotional tweets posted on Sunday afternoon.Regardless of which team you support, it’s been incredibly difficult to watch the young goalkeeper go through this harrowing experience.Everybody makes mistakes; he just happened to make his biggest mistakes as a footballer in the most important match of his career.

Bellew drops his honest opinion about Karius

While the majority of football fans have sympathised with the forlorn goalkeeper, boxer Tony Bellew - an Everton fan, it’s worth mentioning - has been criticised on social media for dropping his brutally honest opinion about the former Germany Under-21 international in the aftermath of the final.

Speaking to iFL TV, Bellew said: “No, I don’t feel sorry for him at all. Absolute professional fool. Just cost his team £100 million. That man’s probably on the best part of eighty, ninety grand a week. Don’t come apart in big games like that.

“One mistake I can allow. I think he’s at fault for all three goals - even the overhead kick. It’s an amazing strike but just watch him. He can get his hands to that, I’m sorry. Do you think that’s going past [Gianluigi] Buffon? I don’t.

“Mate, he stuck a ball on a player who was running past him, what the hell is going on? Mate, mate.

'He's broke thousands of kids' hearts'

“He’s broke thousands of kids’ hearts who’ve travelled all that way to Kiev.

“That goalkeeper has single-handedly cost Liverpool the Champions League. Single-handedly.

“He will never wear a Liverpool goalkeeper’s shirt again. I would be amazed if Jurgen Klopp plays him again.

“You can’t fall apart in big games like that. Everyone’s got to stand up and be counted. It’s in big games and big moments like that the lions have to come to the forefront.”

Ouch. Bellew has taken Karius apart there while the German is currently going through the most difficult moment of his career.

Football fans blast Bellew on Twitter

Football fans believe he’s gone way of the top with his criticism and it’s very hard to disagree…

As a fellow professional sportsman, it’s a surprise that Bellew doesn’t feel any sense of empathy towards Karius.

Still, you can’t accuse him of being fake. He always says what he thinks - even if the rest of us don’t particularly like it.
