Diego Costa has cut an altogether happier figure since moving back to Atletico Madrid.

The last few months of the striker's three-year stay at Chelsea were turbulent to say the least, with Antonio Conte finally casting him into exile with a curt text message.

While he scored 20 league goals to help the Blues to the title in 2017, by the end of that campaign things had already turned sour in the wake of a training ground bust-up with his then-manager.

Fast forward to his reunion with the Rojiblancos and he has already won the Europa League, scoring a crucial goal against Arsenal along the way in the second leg of the semi-final.

Diego Simeone must be delighted to have the Spanish international back, though not so much with his latest antics.

Atleti fans were left rubbing their eyes last night when footage emerged of the 29-year-old holding up a Napoli shirt alongside none other than the Serie A outfit's new manager Carlo Ancelotti.

The pair never actually worked together at Stamford Bridge, as the Italian coach left in 2011 and Costa didn't arrive until 2014.

Costa and Ancelotti met again

Quite why they're so pally, or why there was a Napoli jersey flying around anyway, it's unclear, but even more bizarrely, it was all an elaborate hoax which took place in a restaurant owned by David Luiz:

As per the Daily Mail, it's been claimed in Italy that Ancelotti was actually out with agent Kia Joorabchian to discuss a potential move for Tottenham's Mousa Dembele, whose injury record has raised doubts over his future.

Costa must have sensed the opportunity to have fun, and nobody - bar Sergio Ramos - does winding up football fans all over the continent quite like him.

There is a fair amount of excitement about Ancelotti's arrival in Naples, not least from Chelsea fans, who believe in turn that his predecessor Maurizio Sarri will be replacing Conte at the helm.
