John Cena has faced off against some of the biggest names currently on the roster, even if some of the rivalries weren’t as lengthy or as emotional as his work in previous years.

For example, we finally got the feud with Roman Reigns last year, but that ended in somewhat of a whimper with one match at No Mercy. Considering The Big Dog is someone the WWE is positioning to be the next Cena, fans would have hoped we got a long rivalry which fans could get invested in a lot more than they did.

FEUDS

Obviously, that’s not to say every Cena feud has felt slightly depleted in recent years. His work against AJ Styles will go down as some of his best as he continues to transition into Hollywood and more of a part-time role in WWE.

Still, there are some exciting names on the roster who Cena is eager to face, and those are the same stars many fans believe Cena should put over on his way out so he can set them up for future success - or add a ridiculous amount of pressure on them to impress and reach their potential.

When Cena recently spoke at the MegaCon Q&A session, the 16-time world champion revealed quite a lot. He explained why he doesn’t want to become a Paul Heyman guy, who he would want in his stable along with displaying an interest in competing on NXT.

He also gave Velveteen Dream a glowing endorsement and named him as a future star he wants to face over Ricochet and Adam Cole.

However, when he was asked which superstar he wants to face the most in WWE right now, he revealed that NXT’s EC3 is currently at the top of his list.

CENA VS. EC3

EC3 - who frequently lifts at Cena’s Hard Nock’s gym - has been going back and forth with Cena on social media recently after claiming he wants to vanquish him at WrestleMania. Following that, Cena has declared that EC3 is at the top of the list as he’s come back revitalised after returning to WWE recently.

According to Wrestling Inc, he said: “That list is quite long, but there is a fellow who just arrived, and his name is EC3.

“I put him at the top of the list because he has been involved with WWE before, and he is now back, reinvigorated, revitalised, in good shape and is feeling confident about himself.

“He made one mistake, he said that he is going to finish me and take me out of WWE. There has been so many people say that, so I would like to have a match with EC3 just to let him know that no matter how good he thinks he is going to do and how hard he tries, he is not on the same planetary scale as me.”

The reaction on social media to the original back and forth between the pair was welcomed, with many fans interested in seeing the match.

With Cena publicly stating he wants the match, it’s now up to EC3 to impress the NXT brass to the extent where he’s called up to the main roster and puts himself in the prime position of competing opposite Cena.
