Following the Philadelphia Eagles' Super Bowl win, Nick Foles was one of the most talked about quarterbacks in the NFL because he was able to lead the Eagles to a Super Bowl win against the New England Patriots against all the odds.

Trade

After his Super Bowl performance, which earned him the Super Bowl MVP, there were many reports that stated that several teams were interested in trading for Foles as their new franchise quarterback.

One of those rumoured teams was, to no surprise, the Cleveland Browns. Prior to the 2018 NFL Draft, the Browns reportedly offered the Eagles the 35th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft shortly before the start of the new league year on March 14.

However, the trade was declined because Foles personally wanted to stay in Philadelphia. The quarterback himself has now responded to the reports, stating that they're false denies because he never heard of the offer from the Browns in the first place.

The Super Bowl MVP said, via Zach Berman of the Philadelphia Inquirer: “I haven’t turned down anything. We haven’t talked about anything. … At the end of the day, I’m not the G.M. of the team. I have a great relationship with Howie [Roseman] to where if something did happen, we could have a discussion. But at the end of the day, he gets to decide.”

Aftermath

Things appear to have worked out for both parties, for now at least.

Foles received a revised contract from the Eagles for leading the team to their first-ever Super Bowl, a deal which includes $2 million bonus for 2018 and allows him to earn up to $14 million in incentives. It also includes a mutual option for 2019, meaning he could still hit the market as a free agent next offseason.

As for the Browns, they traded a third-round pick for former Buffalo Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor, and they also drafted Baker Mayfield with the first overall pick. With the 35th pick, they selected Georgia running back Nick Chubb.

Both parties appear to have got what they wanted, with Foles getting a new deal with the Eagles and the Browns getting a quarterback they see a future with, but we'll have to wait and see if this was the right decision.
