Unai Emery has an important summer ahead at Arsenal. The Spaniard arrives at a time when Arsenal are at the lowest they have been in more than two decades. And in the wake of Arsene Wenger’s departure, it’s on Emery to turn things around.Fortunately, he inherits a squad that has plenty of talent.Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan complete a fine attacking group while Mesut Ozil is the best player in the squad.Improvements need to be made in defence but the arrivals of Stephan Lichtsteiner and Sokratis Papastathopoulos are reportedly imminent.Another matter that Emery must attend to is that of Aaron Ramsey.

Emery's main man

The midfielder has proven to be among Arsenal’s most important players but his contract expires in 2019.

However, the fears of Arsenal supporters can be reduced slightly after The Times reported that he has been offered a new five-year contract.

According to the newspaper, Emery values the Welshman so highly that he is “eager to retain and build a team around Ramsey”.

That has to appeal to Ramsey.

The Gunners are planning to sell the 27-year-old if he fails to agree to a new deal at the Emirates Stadium but a five-year contract and a major role in Emery’s squad could convince him to put pen to paper.

From Arsenal’s end, it’s easy to see why they’re eager to get Ramsey’s future sorted as soon as possible.

Both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil were allowed to enter the final 12 months of their contracts and this resulted in a long-running saga that may have had an impact during the first half of the 2017-18 season.

Ramsey is currently earning £110,000 but the new offer would see him receive a significant pay rise.

The move will certainly go down well with Arsenal supporters, who have grown to admire Ramsey during his 10-year career in north London.

If Emery can surround him with a resolute defence that perhaps doesn’t require as much assistance, Ramsey can shine in Arsenal’s side.
