Jesse Lingard earned a spot in England’s World Cup squad after a fine season for Manchester United.The 25-year-old enjoyed the best season of his career, scoring 13 goals in all competitions.So it was hardly a surprise when Lingard was included in Gareth Southgate’s 23-man squad that will compete in Russia.Lingard played in England’s friendlies against the Netherlands and Italy in March and it has to be said that, alongside Raheem Sterling, the Three Lions looked dangerous with their pacy attack.It’s safe to say that the Man United man will be under consideration to start in Russia.Lingard recently compared what it’s like to play for England and Man United by claiming he feels “more comfortable” when he dons his country’s shirt.His comments attracted a lot of attention, particularly from Man United supporters.

"I actually feel more comfortable when I play for England than United. Every game, you've got to play with no fear," Lingard said.

Some Man United fans were critical of Lingard’s words.

However, it seems they’ve been misunderstood.

Instead of suggesting he prefers playing for England, Lingard is saying he feels under more pressure when he plays for Man United, which is understandable given the club's size and reputation.

Lingard has cleared up any confusion by telling Man United fans there is nothing to worry about.

He posted two images on Instagram that show exactly how he feels at Old Trafford.

Lingard was speaking to GQ when he made the comment.

In the same interview, the midfielder expressed his excitement at playing in his first World Cup.

“It's one of the pinnacles of your career as a player and it will be my first World Cup so I've got to enjoy every minute, whether I start of if I've got to make an impact from the bench," he said.

"And I do think we will do well because of the team spirit we've got."

Southgate has named a youthful squad that includes the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
