It seems that World Boxing Council (WBC) President Mauricio Sulaiman is really hopping that a rematch between middleweights Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez is finalized soon.

Golovkin is currently the IBF, WBA, WBC and IBO middleweight champion, and the Mexican powerhouse is first in line for a crack at the middleweight throne.

For the past several weeks both sides have been in negotiations for a September 15th rematch in Las Vegas.

Those negotiations fell through when Canelo's team walked away from the table after Golovkin requested new financial terms that were rejected.

Initially the rematch was set to go down on May 5th earlier this year, however, Alvarez tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol and was later suspended six months by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) as a result.

Canelo is set to be cleared for an in-ring return on August 17th, but has a target date of September 15th in mind. He plans to make his way to the ring whether it's against Golovkin or not.

Until the financial terms of their rematch are dealed out, it looks like the rematch everyone has been waiting for won't be happening.

Alvarez wants a 65-35 split, while Golovkin is asking for 50-50. Initially a 65-35 split was agreed upon for their May 5th fight, but after Alvarez's drug issues make Golovkin suggest he deserves more than that now.

As for what Sulaiman wants, he thinks Golovkin should simply accept the terms of the fight and help one of the biggest bouts in boxing today be finalized (quotes via Boxing Scene):

"There's no way to understand why the fight is not signed. Everything is set for it to take place in September. I invite both camps to bury the hatchet and make the deal," Sulaiman said.

"I think Gennady Golovkin should understand that he has the power to make the fight happen and show everyone in the ring, just who is the best.

"Everyone wants to see the rematch because their first fight was great. And the world deserves to see the second fight."
