With the World Cup looming ever nearer on the horizon, the international friendlies are starting to ramp up ahead of the event.England play the first of their two warm-up matches today against Nigeria, before they entertain Costa Rica at Elland Road on Thursday. The latter of those two fixtures will mark a week until Russia open their tournament against Saudi Arabia, and the excitement is really beginning to build.France played Italy in a fairly high-profile match in Nice last night too, with Paul Pogba being booed off despite his side running out 3-1 winners.Surprisingly though, some of the best action of the night came in Turkey's game against Tunisia in Switzerland.Everton striker Cenk Tosun, who joined the Premier League outfit from Besiktas for £27m in January, scored his third goal in two games to put the visitors ahead in the second half.Shortly after, the drama really unfolded following Tunisia's equaliser through Anice Badri. And Tosun was at the centre of the action, and you really have to see what happened to believe it.The 26-year-old was captaining his country when he was sent off for an astonishing incident, in which he appeared to threaten to slit the throat of someone in the crowd.Tosun's father and other family members were reportedly struck by flares set off by fans, and he understandably reacted with utter fury.Take a look at the video below:

The striker had to be forcefully restrained by his team mates, and he quite clearly was very upset with whatever it was that he saw.

Turkey ended up nicking a 2-2 draw from the game, with Caglar Soyuncu striking in stoppage time to deny the Africans, after Ferjani Sassi put them in front with 10 minutes remaining.

After the game, Tosun explained what he saw and admitted his regret about his reaction, claiming that is not how a captain should behave.

"When I turned my head, I saw a quarrel with my father," Tosun said in an interview with Turkish outlet A Spor.

"I didn't know the whole story. I told them that they were wrong, threatened, unworthy of me.

"Character is more important than football. It was an unbecoming gesture.

"I apologise. I guarantee it won't happen again."

It must be said that most people would react in similar fashion if they saw their family in a distressing situation such as that, and a lot of questions will have to be answered about it over the coming days.

Unfortunately for Tosun, he won't have the chance to make amends at the World Cup, with Turkey failing to qualify for fourth time in a row.
