Manchester United fans of a certain age won’t remember Andrei Kanchelskis. The Russian signed for the club in 1991 and went on to make 161 appearances for the club before joining Everton in 1995.Hilariously enough, Kanchelskis didn’t even know which club he was signing for when he left Shakhtar Donetsk for England.“When I flew to England in 1991, no one told me which club I was going to,” Kanchelskis told FourFourTwo in March.“I asked my agent and he just said, ‘To Manchester’. I asked, ‘Which club?’ and he replied, ‘I don’t know’.“When we landed, we were driven to Old Trafford. It was only then that I realised it was United.”Kanchelskis’ autobiography was published last year and a brilliant excerpt from it has gone viral on social media.

Kanchelskis' story goes viral

The story comes when Kanchelskis, now 49, detailed one of his first ever meetings with Sir Alex Ferguson.

Check it out below.

Kanchelskis isn’t short of a good story or two from his time at Man United.

The former winger will never forget his first training session at the club.

“When I first met Alex Ferguson he said, ‘Tomorrow, you’re training’,” he added in the FourFourTwo interview.

“Nobody told me that I’d be training. I hadn’t brought my boots!

“I went to buy some, but they were terrible. They didn’t really fit properly.

“I played really badly in a friendly, but fortunately they still gave me a contract.”

Kanchelskis would add plenty of silverware to his collection during his Man United career.

He was part of the side that won the double in 1994 - although his red card in the League Cup final against Aston Villa perhaps cost the Red Devils a chance at winning the treble.

The Russian would sign for Everton a year later after Man United rejected Arsenal’s interest.

“Arsenal wanted to sign me but Man United said, ‘No chance’ because they were fighting them at the top of the league,” he added.

“So I went to Everton and my first goals were the two I scored against Liverpool when we won at Anfield.

“That was very special because we won a big derby. I was lucky, as I got to score in all the big derbies – the Manchester derby, the Merseyside derby and the Old Firm derby, too.”
