This summer will surely be pivotal for Jose Mourinho's time at Manchester United.

After two seasons with little progress made, the Special One needs a squad revamp if he is to try and bridge the gap to Manchester City.

To put it simply, there is too much deadwood in his squad, while big names like Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford are failing to perform.

As such, a number of deals are reportedly close to being completed by United, with Porto's Diogo Dalot and Shakhtar Donetsk's Fred looking like they'll be donning the famous red shirt in 2018/19.

A deal for the latter is sure to get fans excited, with the Brazilian midfielder earning rave reviews across Europe for his performances in Ukraine and in the Champions League.

The fact Paris Saint-Germain and Man City are after him as well says a lot about his reputation.

Reports have been stating in the past few days that a £52m deal for Fred was all but a formality, with a medical supposedly scheduled for next week.

However, Shakhtar have decided to throw a bit of a spanner in the works, issuing a fresh demand to the teams chasing their prized possession.

Despite a fee supposedly being agreed, the Ukrainian side have now decided they want at least €70m for Fred, according to France Football.

While it may not bring the whole deal to a halt, it will give the United board a decision to make in the coming days.

The club are well-known for there hefty financial resources, so if they feel that Fred is the man to take their midfield to the next level in 18/19, they will surely cough up the extra cash.

The Brazilian would be a pretty decent first signing, with the likes of Alex Sandro, Toby Alderweireld, Willian and Gareth Bale just some of the high-profile names linked with a summer move to Old Trafford.
