Dejan Lovren's superb Instagram post about Coutinho prior to Brazil v Croatia at Anfield

It was a devastating time for Liverpool fans when Philippe Coutinho left for Barcelona in January.

The Brazilian had been a great servant for the Reds ever since signing in 2013 as he emerged into one of the best players in the world.

But the lure of Barcelona eventually became too much for the Brazilian.

After much reluctance from Liverpool, Coutinho finally made the the move to Spain at the start of 2018 in a deal potentially worth £142 million.

Almost unbelievably, Liverpool actually managed to push on despite losing a player of his quality.

They secured a top four finish in the Premier League, while also making it to the final of the Champions League.

Coutinho perhaps could have been the difference in the Champions League final but, ultimately, losing him hasn't actually been too much of a blow for Jurgen Klopp's side.

Coutinho will play at Anfield later on Sunday for the first time since leaving five months ago.

The 25-year-old will feature for Brazil, with his side taking on Croatia in their penultimate friendly before the World Cup.

On the opposing side will be his former teammate, Dejan Lovren.

The Liverpool defender is becoming increasingly active on social media, and he could not resist posting on Instagram about Coutinho before the match.

And it's another gold post.

Lovren posted a picture of him and and Coutinho smiling at each other, with the defender evidently gripping his former teammate's arm rather firmly.

The caption then read: "Great to see you brate. I know you miss this place. 😉😘"

Brilliant from Lovren, again.

Given how Liverpool performed in the Champions League, he may well be regretting making the move to Barcelona in January.

Coutinho, meanwhile, had some very kind words for Mo Salah prior to the World Cup.

The Brazilian playmaker believes Salah will be one of the best players at the tournament, while also claiming he is 'convinced' the Egyptian will be a key player for Liverpool for many years to come.

“It feels like the right moment for someone to take their chance at this World Cup,” said Coutinho.

“Messi and Ronaldo have been up there on their own for so many years. I think it may be time for other players to aspire to be the best in the world – and the best at this World Cup, too.

"For me, Salah and Neymar have serious chances to do that. It depends on how the tournament goes, of course, but they have the talent to do it. Those are the players I would pick out.

“Watching Mo Salah since then has been amazing.

“He is going to be a player who will be a big hero at Liverpool for a long time, I am totally convinced of that."
