Earlier this year, it was speculated by several sources that the WWE was planning on introducing some brand new championships to the main roster.

One set of titles which looked almost confirmed to be arriving were cruiserweight tag team titles. Ever since Vince McMahon announced that he was reviving the XFL, it meant his focus shifted from 205 Live to his new football venture which saw Triple H take the reins.

TITLES

One of the significant changes The Game made was to put a focus back on the in-ring competition. That seems to have been welcomed, with the division now continually grinding out some exciting matches, such as Cedric Alexander vs. Buddy Murphy earlier this week. With Vince, though, the focus was more on the character development aspect, which didn't make the show or the stars overly appealing.

Designs were even leaked on what the titles would look like, making it seem like a reality. Around the same time as this rumour ignited, there was also speculation that WWE would finally be introducing women's tag team championships on the main roster.

There had been plenty of hints on television as well as social media. Even WWE got in on the act after Paige was revealed as the new general manager of SmackDown LIVE after announcing her retirement, claiming that the introduction of women's tag titles is something Paige could bring to the table.

However, according to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, that plan doesn't seem to be going ahead based on his comments, where he revealed that he doesn't even know where the rumours even started.

NO PLANS

According to Ringside News, he said: "There's been no talk of a WWE women's tag team division at this point. I don't know where that got started, but no."

It's understandable if this is something which doesn't please WWE fans, especially since now would be the perfect time to introduce these titles in what is already a stacked roster with talented women regularly not featuring in the championship picture.

Plus, the WWE has introduced several women on the main roster as part of teams. For example, Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose of Absolution, along with Sarah Logan, Liv Morgan and Ruby Riott of The Riott Squad being perfect candidates to lead a potential tag team division.

With Johnson's latest update, though, it seems like those that could be utilised perfectly in a tag team division will still have to watch the usual suspects enter the picture for the RAW and SmackDown Women's Championships.
