It's been over a week since Loris Karius' nightmare performance in the Champions League final. On the biggest night of his career, the German goalkeeper dropped two terrible mistakes during Liverpool's 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in Kiev. There are fears that Karius will never be able to live the performance down and that his career in England could be under threat.Karius rolled the ball into the path of Karim Benzema for a bizarre opening goal at the Olympic Stadium, before fumbling a Gareth Bale long shot that would usually be an easy catch.\The 24-year-old was distraught about his errors, later positing on Instagram: "Haven’t really slept until now... the scenes are still running through my head again and again..."I'm infinitely sorry to my teammates, for you fans, and for all the staff. I know that I messed it up with the two mistakes and let you all down. As I said I'd just like to turn back the time but that's not possible."

Karius-Ramos clash

Before both errors, though, were was an incident involving Karius that irked a number of Liverpool fans and it featured Sergio Ramos.

Although the Real Madrid captain appeared to have been pushed by Virgil van Dijk, he clearly struck the Liverpool goalkeeper with his elbow in the 49th minute.

If nothing else, it sparked quite the reaction on social media - check out the clip below:

Liverpool thought he was concussed

As days passed, the incident was eventually forgotten but a fresh report from ESPN has shed some new light on the clash and it's very telling indeed.

Sources have told the publication that Karius was ordered by Liverpool to receive a head scan after the game, because there was suspicions he could have been concussed by the incident.

Karius had flown to the United States upon his return to England, yet the club requested him to visit a specialist in Boston - Dr. Ross Zafonte - at Massachusetts General Hospital.

The check-up was carried out on May 31 but the results of the testing remain unclear.

Dr. Zafonte often sees NFL players who are worried about head trauma and was recommended by Liverpool's Boston-based owners Fenway Sports Group.

So, after all, it seems there was legs in suspicions that Karius was concussed by the incident.

Unless the results are leaked in the coming days, supporters will be unable to establish whether Ramos' elbow affected his performance or in anyway contributed to his errors.

However, at the moment, it can only be assumed that the check-up was precautionary.
