Football fans were stunned when Germany’s World Cup squad was announced on Monday.Nowhere to be seen was Leroy Sane. The Manchester City star has enjoyed a wonderful season, capping it off by claiming PFA Young Player of the Year honours, but he won’t be a part of Germany’s attempts to defend the World Cup.Joachim Low explained his surprise decision, claiming it was a close call between Sane and Bayer Leverkusen’s Julian Brandt.“That was a very close decision between him and Julian Brandt, which was made in favour of Brandt,” Low explained.“Leroy is a huge talent. He will be back again from September. He had not arrived in international matches yet.“It was a very close decision. If it was a 100 metre race, it would have been a photo finish.”

Sane's tweet

The Sun have reported that Sane’s attitude is the reason why he’s been left at home but he’s only shown class with the tweet he sent on Tuesday afternoon.

The winger posted an image of himself with an uplifting message.

“Thank you so much everyone for your encouraging messages yesterday and today,” the 22-year-old wrote.

“I’m obviously disappointed I won’t participate in the World Cup but I have to accept this decision and I’ll give it my all to bounce back stronger!

“Nothing but the best of success to the DFB Team in Russia. Go get that title!”

It’s great to see Sane has taken his exclusion so well.

It's the complete opposite to how Jack Wilshere reacted to being left out of England's World Cup squad.

The Man City man scored 13 goals in all competitions and provided 17 assists, but his struggles for Germany have been well documented.

In 12 appearances, he’s failed to score a single goal and has managed just one assist.

He has found it difficult adapting to Low’s system, where he has been deployed in a central role, and the Germany coach can rely on Brandt more in defensive situations too.

Hopefully Sane uses this setback as fuel to ensure Germany can never overlook him again.
