Money in the Bank returns in less than two weeks - and WWE fans are looking forward to one of the most exciting pay-per-views of the year.

But the actual show won't be all about the two ladder matches - yes, either the men's or the women's is likely to be the main event, but there are plenty of other good matches on the card.

There are five title bouts scheduled as well - including AJ Styles vs Shinsuke Nakamura, Seth Rollins vs Elias and Nia Jax vs Ronda Rousey.

In each of those matches - and most others on the card, there's a clear favourite to win. But what would happen if WWE decided to swerve everyone and threw in some upsets?

Let's take a look at some of the shocks WWE could pull at Money in the Bank.

1) Elias defeats Seth Rollins for the Intercontinental Championship

There's only one place to start really - Elias defeating Rollins for the Intercontinental title. The Kingslayer is the hottest superstar on the WWE roster right now.

Monday Night Rollins is almost guaranteed the biggest pop, week in, week out. It seems that the entire WWE Universe is behind him - and he's expected to defend his title at the PPV.

But if Vince McMahon books Elias to upset the odds, it could be very good for both his, and Rollins careers.

Elias would get his hands on his first WWE championship, while Rollins would be free to pursue a greater prize than the Intercontinental title - Brock Lesnar's Universal Championship.

2) Nia Jax defeats Ronda Rousey for the Raw Women's Championship

Now, it doesn't sound like a huge shock if a champion defends their title at a PPV. But it would be very surprising if Jax defeats Rousey - and wins clean too.

Rousey is no doubt WWE's biggest female draw - she's billed as the most dangerous woman on the planet - so should, really, beat everyone she takes on.

But it's a bit strange that she's been thrown into a title match so early into her WWE career. Because if Rousey wins, she makes Jax look weak, but if Jax defends her title, Rousey looks weak.

It's kind of a catch 22 situation for the company, but they'll definitely have something up their sleeve for Money in the Bank. However, it would be shocking if Jax is the one walking out with the title.

3) Finn Balor wins the men's Money in the Bank ladder match

Balor is by no means the favourite to win the Money in the Bank briefcase on June 17 - in fact, rumours suggest that the winner will be coming from SmackDown Live, not Raw.

But if Balor does win, it would finally give him a clear shot to reclaim the title he never lost - after vacating it through injury back in 2016.

The WWE Universe would also be on-board with that idea - because then Lesnar would likely be reintroduced to TV as a champion that needs to watch his back.

On top of that, last years winner, Baron Corbin, was also from the blue brand, so having someone from Raw win the briefcase would be a refreshing change too.

4) Lana wins the women's Money in the Bank ladder match

Out of everyone competing in the women's ladder match, Lana is perhaps the superstar no one expects to win.

She qualified for the match by winning her first ever singles match in WWE, so it's fair to say she's quite inexperienced - not just in ladder matches, but generally in a wrestling ring.

However - if Rusev fails to win the men's ladder match but Lana wins the women's - would it still be Rusev Day? Arguably yes.

The Bulgarian Brute is very over with fans at the moment, but there are better people than him in the ladder match. So surely, one briefcase (even if it's Lana's) is better than none, right?

5) AJ Styles defeats Shinsuke Nakamura for the WWE Championship

Their feud has been rolling for months - but it's likely going to come to an end at Money in the Bank - and Nakamura is the current favourite to win the WWE Championship.

His heel turn was executed very well but to be taken seriously with his new attitude, he's going to need a belt around his waist.

However - Styles is probably the best wrestler on the WWE roster right now, so is it really fair to take the title off of him?

Throw in the fact that The King of Strong Style has picked their match stipulation and it's looking unlikely that Styles will be defending at the PPV.

But if he does, the Phenomenal One could have some huge feuds with other stars for the WWE Championship.

He could put on a dream match with Daniel Bryan, defend against Andrade 'Cien' Almas - who's just been called up from NXT, or even take on Samoa Joe in a singles match for the first time in WWE.

To make all of those matches truly epic - there would need to be a title on the line.

Of course, we don't actually know what's going to happen on June 17 when Money in the Bank begins.

But with such a stacked card, it's certain to be one of the most exciting PPV's of the year. And if any of the above happens, it would make for great viewing.
