While he doesn't receive the attention at the Golden State Warriors like Steph Curry and Kevin Durant do, Draymond Green is still regarded as one of the best players in the league because of his work on defense.

Defensive work may not have the flair that dropping 3-pointers from deep does, but Green is still recognised by many as one of the best defenders in the league.

Voted as the Defensive Player of the Year in 2017, the Warriors star has given huge credit to one former Golden State player for helping him become the world-class defender which he is today.

Bogut

Speaking yesterday during Warriors practice before Game 3 of the NBA Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Green explained how big of an impact Andrew Bogut has had on his NBA career.

He revealed that he wouldn't be half the defender he is today without the help of the Australian during the early stages of his career with the Warriors.

He said, according to Fox Sports: “The guy who maybe had the least amount of impact in showing me the way of life in the NBA, but showing me one of the most important things he could ever teach me, was Andrew Bogut.”

“He showed me how to guard in the post. I’ll never forget it.

“My first day out at Golden State, he was teaching me different things you could do, that you couldn’t do in college. Throughout the course of that year, just teaching me positioning and stuff. I wouldn’t be half the defender I am without Andrew Bogut.

“He taught me so much about defence, that I owe all my success to him, defensively.”

Bogut has definitely had some sort of influence on Green, as you can tell by the defensive accolades he has achieved in the NBA since being drafted by Golden State in 2012.

Green was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2017, and from 2015 to 2017, he was selected into the NBA All-Defensive First Team. This season, he was part of the NBA All-Defensive Second Team. He was also the NBA Steals Leader in 2017.
