Frank Lampard was given his first managerial role last Thursday when he was announced as the new Derby County boss.

The 38-year-old will already be looking at transfer targets for this summer, but one player he has been linked with making a move for is former Chelsea teammate, John Terry.

Terry is currently a free-agent after leaving Aston Villa, but Lampard was evasive when asked about a move for the defender last week.

"I haven't even got that far and I haven't even had a conversation with John," Lampard said last week.

"That's the truth – I got a text message off him this morning but he's on holiday.

"I'll look at it as a big picture – that's how I'll get out of that question!

"There are conversations ongoing across the board, that isn’t one of them. These conversations start now. John’s had a great career, but we’ll concentrate on what we want to do here.

"We spoke, but pre this (being appointed at Derby).

"I have had conversations with him this season about how he was getting on, and about the Championship. He has told me bits. He will definitely be there for me. We are close."

But will the two be reunited? The Mirror have provided an answer.

They report that Lampard plans to make a move for Terry, but only if Curtis Davies leaves the club.

Davies, who is the current club captain, is said to be in demand and has been heavily linked with Stoke.

Lampard is keen to keep Davies, but budget cuts by Derby owner Mel Morris means they may accept an offer of around £3 million for the 33-year-old.

The money obtained by his sale will then be spent on Terry, who Lampard will then give the captaincy too.

So it seems the chances of Terry and Lampard teaming up is resting on one man.

Terry is now 37 and is rapidly approaching the end of his career.

But Harry Redknapp feels as if he would be a brilliant signing for Derby, and has urged Lampard to make the deal happen.

“John Terry… what a signing he’d be!” Redknapp said.

“I would still take him for another year; he’s a great professional and great around the place. That would be an interesting one.

“Jody Morris [Lampard’s rumoured assistant] and John are big pals, so that fits nicely that one."
