On Tuesday, a verdict was reached in the long-awaited trial between CM Punk and WWE.

After five days in front of the judge, the courts found in favour of Punk and Colt Cabana, the defendants in a multi-million dollar lawsuit against WWE doctor Christopher Amann.

Amann was suing for defamation after Punk made a number of comments surrounding his health on a podcast hosted by Cabana back in 2014.

The former WWE star claimed that Amann was responsible for him suffering a staph infection - as well as blaming the doctor for providing treatment that caused a lump on his back to worsen, per Sports Illustrated

Following days of testimony, the jury found Punk and Cabana not guilty - meaning they won't have to pay almost $4 million that Amann was suing for.

PUNK VS WWE

Of course, it wasn't just the doctor alone that the defendants were up against in court. It's reported that WWE were fully supporting Amann's case - and that caused huge animosity between the company and Punk himself.

Now, the four-year dispute is finally over. But whether there's any chance of repairing a toxic relationship between the two sides remains to be seen.

Although fans would love to see "The Best In The World" return to WWE - that certainly appears a very long way off.

THE WIDER IMPACTS ON WWE

However, the result of his trial could have instant repercussions in the company - as Dave Meltzer explains.

Speaking on a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer explained the impact the verdict may have on WWE talent when it comes to medical evaluation.

"I will be willing to bet that there will be a memo that comes through to those doctors very quickly that this will never happen again and everything is going to have to be written down," he said, per NoDQ

"I think some of the talent might be unhappy because they’re going to have to go through more channels so it won’t be as easy.

"I sense that because WWE is so conscious right now about its public image, about anything."

Of course, there's an argument to suggest that everything Meltzer expects to happen from now on, should have been happening from day one.

However - if that's not what current WWE stars are used to, it may be frustrating for a while. But in the long run, a system like that should be better for everyone.
