Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is hoping to strengthen his squad this summer after their fourth placed Premier League finish.

The Reds completed the £43m signing of Fabinho last week but are expected to splash the cash on bolstering their attack.

Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino all had excellent seasons but Liverpool are desperate for some more competition.

Danny Ings wasn't included in the Champions League final squad and the Reds fell apart after Salah came off injured.

Liverpool's front three are an unstoppable trio - but their back-up options are simply non-existent.

Lyon captain Nabil Fekir has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield but a deal is yet to be agreed between the two clubs.

On Wednesday, they were linked with a player who would be far easier to sign.

Liverpool interested in 26-year-old

According to The Guardian, Liverpool have identified the player who could arrive as back-up to Salah and Mane.

They've expressed an interest in Stoke City's Xherdan Shaqiri, who has a cut-price release clause of around £12m after the Potters were relegated to the Championship.

Everton and Roma are among a number of clubs interested in signing the former Bayern Munich and Inter Milan winger.

Liverpool attempted to sign Shaqiri in 2014 but he eventually joined Stoke six months later instead.

"I wanted to leave in summer by all means and had offers from Liverpool and Atletico," Shaqiri told Spox in 2016.

"Brendan Rodgers called me several times before the World Cup. But Bayern forbid me to leave."

Shaqiri this week insisted that he hopes to stay in the Premier League - and would surely be tempted by a move to Anfield.

"It is no secret that I will leave the club," said the 26-year-old Swiss international, as per Sky Sports.

"I think the Premier League is perfect for me.

"I would love to stay in England but I don't want to rule anything out. It's the best league with the best players."

Available for just £12m, Shaqiri will have plenty of potential suitors all over Europe.

He was Stoke's top scorer this season, netting eight times in 36 Premier League appearances.
