As of Thursday, Brock Lesnar is just two days away from becoming the longest reigning title holder in WWE’s modern history.

He’s currently held the Universal Championship for 432 days, since winning it at WrestleMania 33. That night, he defeated Goldberg to begin his run.

The man that currently holds the longest reign of the last 25 years is CM Punk. He held the WWE Championship for 434 days between 2011 and 2013.

However - it appears that his record is about to be broken by the Beast Incarnate. In fact, it's not just going to be broken, it's going to be smashed and obliterated.

THE NEXT DEFENSE

According to reports, Lesnar is not scheduled to defend his title again until SummerSlam - on August 19. That's over two months away - and will, therefore, take his reign to near 500 days.

There are huge differences between the two title runs as well - and most fans will probably be upset when Brock breaks the record because of the limited amount of times he's actually defended the gold.

Lesnar has only had to put the title on the line six times since last April - compare that to Punk, who made 21 defenses on WWE TV during his run.

THE BEAST'S FUTURE

Although he's set to best Punk's record in just two days time - Lesnar's future beyond his record-breaking title reign is not actually clear.

As mentioned, he's expected to defend the Universal Championship at SummerSlam - and according to WWE sources, they've already decided the outcome of that match.

According to Sports Illustrated, Lesnar is expected to lose to his opponent in Brooklyn. If that happens, it will be huge.

It's not yet clear who will be battling him for RAW's top prize in just over two months - but it's now a pretty safe bet to say the challenger will be winning.

THE END OF LESNAR'S WWE RUN?

Furthermore, Sports Illustrated confirmed that Lesnar is paid by each appearance in WWE - which explains why he rarely appears away from pay-per-views - but we already knew that.

What's interesting, is they argue that if he does drop the title, SummerSlam will likely be the last time we see Lesnar in a WWE ring, at least for a while.

Because if the company aren't paying him to turn up as a champion, why would they pay him to turn up without a belt?

Of course, plans can always change. But as it stands, we'll likely have a new Universal Champion come this summer.
