Jose Mourinho has wasted no time in adding to his squad at Manchester United.

The Portuguese manager concluded his first business of the summer transfer window when he completed the signing of Fred on Tuesday.

Diego Dalot arrived just a day later as he was snapped up from Porto in a deal worth £19m.

But Mourinho needs to keep spending if his side have any hope of catching Manchester City next season.

Man United finished finished 19 points behind Pep Guardiola's side in the Premier League, highlighting just how much work Mourinho still has to do with his squad.

But where will he strengthen next?

The Independent have the answer, and it could be good news for Luke Shaw.

Mourinho has been targeting a move for Alex Sandro over the past few weeks, but it seems the Portuguese manager has become more concerned with strengthening his options in the centre of attack.

Their report suggests Mourinho is prepared to put off a signing a left-back and stick with Shaw and first-choice Ashley Young.

For this reason, it is now believed Man United are 'unlikely' to buy a left-back in the transfer window.

Mourinho will then use that money to bid for a back-up striker, a position where he does not have too much depth at his disposal.

Lukaku is the only recognised central striker and Mourinho is looking at either Marko Arnautovic and Mario Mandzukic, although that search remains ongoing.

This could mean good news for Shaw.

The Englishman has been expected to leave in the summer, but could now stay with Mourinho seemingly not desperate to replace him.

Meanwhile, Mourinho has been instructed to sign five further players by former player Paul Ince in order to catch Manchester City.

“With the likes of Fred and Diogo Dalot in, plus four more and a striker then it might be different," Ince said.

“It’s not just about Mourinho being a serial winner. I’m looking for him to bring in players and change how they play.

“I know his philosophy might be different but I thought when he brought in Alexis Sanchez that was the start of the change.

“He probably felt the players at his disposal last season meant he had to play that way.”
