Carson Wentz's brutal ACL injury might've been the biggest what-if scenario in the NFL last season had the Eagles not gone on to win their first Super Bowl in franchise history. Wentz missed the end of the regular season as well as the entire playoff run after compiling an MVP-worthy season through 13 games. The 25-year-old dazzled with 33 touchdown passes and just seven picks, earning a Pro Bowl berth in just his second season as a pro. His loss seemed insurmountable at the time; but then Nick Foles happened. The veteran backup led the Eagles to an historic Super Bowl victory over the Patriots, balling out on the biggest stage in football as he torched Matt Patricia's defense for 373 passing yards and three touchdowns as well as hauling in the receiving score on what has since become one of the most iconic plays in Super Bowl history. Despite the heroics from Foles, Wentz is still the QB1 in Philly, and his injury comeback is nearing it's end as he took part in 7-on-7 drills this week for the first time. And, according to Eagles TE Zach Ertz, the former number two overall pick certainly hasn't lost any of his prodigious arm talent since being on the sidelines. "The ball has the same zip, if not more,” Ertz said Wednesday per Philly.com. “It’s definitely coming.”"Just like old times" he added. “Just like riding a bike.”That's great news for the Eagles and their fans, and Wentz does actually look like he's moving smoothly in practice!

His return sooner rather than later will be a huge boost to Philly's chances of defending their championship in 2018, and head coach Doug Pederson seems more than happy to increase his franchise leader's time on the field for now.

“Part of the rehab process with him is giving him a little more — I don’t want to say freedom — but a little more practice time,” Pederson said. “And one of the controlled environments that we can, obviously, put him in is a seven-on-seven situation.”

Wentz's rehab has been rumoured to be way ahead of schedule, but Pederson remained coy when asked about that.

“I’m not a doctor,” he said. “I can’t really answer that.”.

With Foles on board though, there won't be any major rush to get Wentz back. Having said that, the signs so far point to him being ready to go by week one, and that should be a scary reality for the rest of the league given what the Eagles were able to achieve without their best offensive player.
