Never before have Liverpool made such a positive start to a transfer window.

The Reds were widely expected to be busy this summer following a promising yet ultimately disappointing season, but no one expected Jurgen Klopp to act so quickly.

In the days since the Champions League final, which Liverpool lost 3-1 to Real Madrid, they've secured the services of Fabinho for £44 million.

Naby Keita is due to arrive from RB Leipzig on July 1, too, having agreed a £52 million move to Anfield last summer.

And now, according to the likes of the Guardian and the Liverpool Echo, Klopp is on the brink of signing Nabil Fekir from Lyon.

A breakthrough in discussions was made on Thursday that saw Liverpool and Lyon agree terms on a €55 million deal including €5 million in bonuses.

This is despite Lyon's president, Jean-Michel Aulas, saying that Fekir's move had hit a "standstill" and that it was unlikely to go through before the World Cup.

FEKIR IS A GO

"His case is at a standstill. It has not at all advanced," said Aulas. "The case certainly won't be resolved during the World Cup.

"I do not think that there will be changes before [the World Cup]. We have not placed a base price [on Fekir] because we have not yet discussed that."

Aulas has very much been proved wrong and now Fekir looks Liverpool bound, with the 24-year-old making it abundantly clear to Lyon that the Reds are his first choice.

A deal could go through as early as Friday and the Liverpool Echo add that Klopp is so confident of completing a move that he's made some preparations in the last 24 hours.

Klopp has told Liverpool's medical team to be on standby ready to fly to Paris to carry out a medical on Friday.

It really is time to get excited, Liverpool fans.

Fekir's seemingly inevitable move to Merseyside has Kopites wondering how exactly he will slot into their starting XI for next season.

A midfield three of Fekir, Keita and Fabinho, seems most likely, though that will mean captain Jordan Henderson dropping to the bench.
