There's been more drama on the courts as Rafael Nadal's quarter-final match against Diego Schwartzman was called off on Wednesday due to rain.

The king of the clay court, Nadal, lost his first set at Roland Garros since 2015 when Wednesday's quarter-final match was faced with a 53-minute delay, due to weather.

Nadal managed to eventually return to court on Thursday with a rediscovered serve and forehand, until at 5-3 30-15 the heavens opened again.

It wasn't all bad, however, as once play resumed again the Spaniard defeated Schwartzman to make it through to the semi-finals of the French Open.

Nadal will now face Juan Martin del Potro in the final four, as the race to the Roland Garros final continues. But it isn't going to be an easy semi-final for the World ranked No. 1.

Following his victory against Schwartzman, Nadal has said he will be expecting a tough fight when he faces the Argentine Del Potro, especially if he goes defensive.

“Del Potro has achieved great victories this year,” Nadal said, per The Express.

“He has fantastic potential. Aggressive game from the end of the court, the baseline.

“And I have to play aggressively. If I play defensively and I don't take intensity, I will lose.”

The pair will face each other on Friday for a place in the final after Del Potro secured victory in four sets in his quarter-final match against Marin Cilic.

There have been some concerns for Nadal in regards to whether or not he will be fit enough for the match, as it will mean the Spaniard will have to play for a third day running during the tournament.

“I played already here days in a row in the past,” he added.

“I hope to be ready for it. I really believe that I am enough fit and ready to hold.

“I need to rest. That's why I came here quick, and I want to do my things. I want to work with my physiotherapist.

“I want to be with calm a little bit at the room and just save energy and wake up tomorrow with the right feelings and go on court and just try to play with the right determination, no?

“That's my goal, and then anything can happen.”

The winner of Friday's match will face either Marco Cecchinato or Dominic Thiem who also play their semi-final match on Friday.
