Nabil Fekir will be a Liverpool player next season.

After a couple of days of endless conflicting reports, it looks as if the Reds have finally got their man, with the Frenchman set to sign a five-year deal at the club.

He will become the club's third most expensive signing, behind Virgil van Dijk and Naby Keita.

The hype surrounding Fekir has grown enormously over the last 12 months as the 24-year-old enjoyed a truly stunning campaign in Ligue 1, scoring 18 goals in just 30 games.

World-class cover appears to have finally arrived for the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, with the likes of Danny Ings and Dominic Solanke set to play an even more peripheral role next season.

Fekir has reportedly chosen to decline the likes of Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich in order to be part of Jurgen Klopp's exciting project on Merseyside.

Sounds like he's going to be an instant fan favourite at Anfield, right?

Well, he probably still will be, but what Fekir said about Manchester United back in 2015 will probably not sit too well with Liverpool fans.

The Frenchman was discussing Anthony Martial's move to Old Trafford - the pair were briefly teammates at Lyon - and Fekir was full of praise for the Red Devils.

"Playing for Manchester United one day? Why not. it's a club that makes you dream, but we're not there yet,” he said.

“The need to have a good season at Lyon comes first, and then, we'll see.”

To be fair to Fekir, most players view United as a dream destination at some point in their career and this was a long, long time before any links to Liverpool.

The Frenchman will travel to Russia for the World Cup after sealing his move to Merseyside, with Fekir likely to play a pretty pivotal role in Didier Deschamps' squad.

While he's not a guaranteed starter, his impact off the bench could be crucial for Les Bleus.
