There could be some big changes on the way in Formula One as several stars find themselves coming to the end of their contracts.

Both Lewis Hamilton and Daniel Ricciardo will be up for grabs at the end of the current season, with Ricciardo reportedly being more in-demand due to his rival's intense financial demands.

In fact, there is now some talk that Ricciardo is intentionally delaying his decision until Hamilton makes his, knowing full well that he'd be top of the list for Mercedes if they need to replace their champion driver.

But similarly, Hamilton knows that Ricciardo being tied up elsewhere greatly increases his own bargaining position with Mercedes - all in all, it's got quite complicated.

Not that it stops there, however, as the contracts for both Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen come to an end in 2020, leading to reports that Ricciardo is looking for a two-year-contract next so he can take advantage of that situation.

With a potential free-for-all on the horizon, rumours are circulating about who the top teams are eyeing up.

And Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has given his thoughts on one of these rumours: could Verstappen end up at his team?

“He’s one of the most talented and fearless drivers of the moment,” Wolff told Dutch outlet De Volkskrant. “However, Max decided he wants to stay with Red Bull until 2020 and we respect contracts.

“We should have a talk in 2021.”

Well if people thought there might be a race for talent coming up, this confirms it.

Wolff openly courting Verstappen shouldn't be the biggest surprise, though. Hamilton will obviously need to be replaced someday and there isn't anyone better placed to do it than the 20-year-old prodigy.

Despite criticism over his recent problems - criticism that he's handling by threatening to headbutt people - Verstappen is undoubtedly a driver with enormous potential.

He holds the record for the youngest driver to achieve nearly everything there is to achieve except, of course, becoming world champion.

It sounds like Wolff would very much like to give him a shot at that one.
