Emre Can is no longer a Liverpool player.Just as Kopites were hotly anticipating an update on their chase for Nabil Fekir, the club offered a very different type of transfer news.It was announced on their official Twitter page and website that both Can and Jon Flanagan will be leaving Anfield. The Reds noted in their statement: "Liverpool FC can confirm that Emre Can and Jon Flanagan will both leave the club upon the expiry of their contracts this summer."

"Everybody at Liverpool FC thanks all departing players for their contributions and wishes them the best of luck for the future."

Emre Can officially leaves Liverpool

In truth, as far as Can is concerned, the writing has been on the wall for some time now.

Rumours have been circulating for months that the German midfielder wouldn't be renewing his contract on Merseyside, eyeing a summer move to Juventus in the process.

It was news that sparked mixed feelings amongst Liverpool fans.

Liverpool fans react on Twitter

Many were confused given their successful Champions League run and general improvements, while the apparent guarantee of trophies with Juventus served as the counterargument.

Fast forward to the confirmation, though, and there's a very different feeling amongst supporters.

Given his impressive performances across his four years at the club, the fan-base is sad to see him go but the recent arrivals of Naby Keita and Fabinho has somewhat tempered emotions.

Many fans even believe that Can wouldn't have made it into next season's starting XI anyway and feel Klopp's summer business has more than accounted for his exit.

Check out the reaction below:

You can't help but sympathise with their response.

It would be cruel to mock Can for his departure and Liverpool fans haven't, yet they couldn't help shrugging their shoulders amid the influx of midfielders at the club.

They've signed two players very similar to the German and, arguably, better than him.

It just remains to be seen as to whether Can will regret his move with Liverpool on the rise, in spite of Juventus' utter domination of Italian football in recent years.

There's every reason to suggest that Liverpool could improve upon their Champions League run with a tangible challenge for the Premier League, thanks in no small part to their transfer business.

It's exciting times at Liverpool right now - and Can's exit is doing little to spoil the party.
