Liverpool fans are refreshing Twitter every few minutes as they await confirmation of Nabil Fekir’s arrival.

It was reported on Thursday night that Liverpool had reached an agreement with Lyon to sign the attacking midfielder.

All that was to come was an official announcement from the clubs.

Yet, Lyon sprung a surprise on Friday morning when they claimed that no deal had been reached.

"The information on the transfer of Nabil Fekir is false,” the Ligue 1 club wrote in a statement.

“Olympique Lyonnais categorically denies the false information disseminated by many media about the transfer of Nabil Fekir to Liverpool.

"In this period of transfers where the slightest rumour is often presented as a reality, Olympique Lyonnais recalls that only the information disseminated by the club on its website is authentic."

Fekir's medical in Paris

Yet it would appear that an announcement is imminent.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Fekir underwent a medical after Liverpool’s medical staff flew out to Paris on Thursday.

The Reds wanted a second opinion on one matter, though - a knee issue.

Fekir suffered a knee injury in 2016 that forced him to miss Euro 2016 and he missed seven matches for Lyon in 2018 due to a knee contusion.

But any fears that Liverpool had were erased when they another opinion was considered.

The Liverpool Echo’s report goes on to state that the deal will not be announced on Friday, despite being close to completion.

So Jurgen Klopp has already signed two players this summer as he continues to create a team that can compete for major trophies.

Fabinho’s arrival was confirmed shortly after the defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League final and with Naby Keita also joining, Klopp has an enviable group of midfielders.

It says a lot that Liverpool fans aren’t concerned by Emre Can’s departure.

If Klopp is able to sign the world-class goalkeeper he is looking for - Alisson is wanted but Roma do not wish to sell - then Liverpool will be taken extremely seriously next season.
