It may have been 10 months since the mega-money fight between two giants of combat sport took place at the grand stage of the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on August 2017, but the war of words continues.

They were none other than Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor.

The memories of that night is still fresh in the minds of fans across the globe, with both men pocketing an astounding amount at the end of the fight, irrespective of the outcome.

Forbes recently named the highest paid athletes in 2018, where Mayweather has topped once again, a gulf ahead of the rest in the list.

They credited him making $285m in the last 12 months, with an estimated $200m coming from his showdown against the Irishman.

Meanwhile, after gaining $70m from the bout, McGregor secured the fourth spot in the list with a total earnings of $99m. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo separates the pair, obtaining the second and third places respectively.

The UFC ace took to social media and posted on Instagram a picture of that list, captioning it with: “I took up two jobs. Where there is a will. There is a way. Keep grinding.”

TMZ caught up with Mayweather, congratulating him for the honour, and asked about his views on McGregor as well.

The American icon said: “Number 4! Conor is at number four because of me. Before we even fought, I was number one. But, we both done big things in 2017. So it was great for both of us.”

The boxing ace was then asked if he thought McGregor can ever get to the number one spot on his own.

Mayweather replied: “Absolutely not. Conor McGregor can never get to No. 1 without Floyd Mayweather.”

The 41-year-old has already stated in the past that he is happily retired from boxing, but speculation continues regarding a possible MMA switch.

If it comes to fruition, only time will tell whether he can reign in McGregor’s territory as well, or if the Irish talisman would have his revenge inside the Octagon this time around.

Regarding Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather’s assessment of the Forbes list, wonder what Conor has to say about it.
