Ever since Rey Mysterio made a surprise return to the WWE at the Royal Rumble back in January, many fans have been questioning when the company will sign him to a new deal and involve him in more storylines.

Return

Mysterio has made one other WWE appearance since the start of the year, which was when he was a surprise entrant in the Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia back in April. There were even rumours that he would be involved in WrestleMania 34 but those never came to fruition.

However, it's been five months now since The Master of the 619's initial return to the WWE and he's still not signed a new deal with the company. Being a sought-after free agent, he has the freedom to wrestle whenever and wherever he wants, which is why he's wrestling at NJPW's Dominion, as well as the All In show on September 1.

While Mysterio is getting plenty of work on the independent circuit, fans would love to see him back in a WWE ring, and the man himself has provided an update on the chances of that happening during a recent interview with ESPN.

He said that negotiations with WWE have "been going back and forth," but he can only wrestle once or twice a week at this stage of his career. He adds if a part-time schedule can be worked out, he is more than open to a return, but in the meantime, he's busy checking off another milestone on his bucket list at Dominion.

Future

Mysterio's match at NJPW's Dominion took place earlier today when he teamed up with Hiroshi Tanahashi and Jushin Thunder Liger against the Bullet Club's Marty Scurll, Cody and Hangman Page. Bullet Club won after Cody pinned Liger following a Cross Rhodes.

The Master of the 619 said prior to the Dominion show to ESPN that he doesn't want this match to be his last match for NJPW, which could affect any WWE deal he's offered. It's hard to see him signing anything more than a part-time WWE deal because he's such a sought-after star on the independent circuit.

There are many storylines which the WWE could use Mysterio in if he returns to the company. They just have to be comfortable with only using him on a part-time basis in order to make another return happen.
