What is going on with Nabil Fekir’s proposed move to Liverpool?

There have been numerous reports attempting to explain the situation as the Reds try to force through a move before the World Cup.

However, that is looking more and more unlikely with just five days left before the tournament in Russia kicks off.

The majority of reports seem to believe that concerns over Fekir’s previous knee injuries is the biggest problem.

And in the latest report produced by Melissa Reddy from Joe.co.uk, that appears to be very much the case.

Reddy writes: “Liverpool are hesitating on a £53 million deal to sign Nabil Fekir from Lyon due to concerns over an underlying knee issue.”

A second opinion was asked about Fekir’s knee issues and there appears to be enough concern not to rush the transfer through in the coming days.

And those Liverpool fans that hope that the transfer will be concluded before it all kicks off in Russia are set to be very disappointed.

WHAT LIVERPOOL HAVE SAID

That’s because the club have said: “no announcements on any incomings are likely for a while as things stand.”

Therefore, it seems the Merseysiders certainly aren’t prepared to pay the £52 million to Lyon without being 100% sure on Fekir’s fitness.

The midfielder suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in his right knee whilst on international duty in September 2015, requiring arthroscopic surgery to clean a joint in August 2016, before picking up a contusion in the area in February this year.

There is a belief that Fekir avoided surgery earlier this season in order to be fit for the World Cup this summer.

While he will be in the French squad for the tournament, that decision may have cost him a move to Liverpool.
