Despite being on the verge of securing back-to-back championships with a commanding 3-0 lead in the NBA Finals over the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Golden State Warriors are already looking at ways to improve their roster next season.

As expected, Kevin Durant has confirmed that he will be re-signing in the summer so the team's only focus will be on surrounding him and their multiple All-Stars with quality role players in order to three-peat next year.

Any player the Warriors target would have to take a pay cut to join the defending champions as they are already over the luxury tax and will have to fork out more money for Durant.

One player who may reportedly be prepared to accept such a deal is impending free agent Trevor Ariza.

According to ESPN's Chris Haynes, the veteran may not re-sign with the Houston Rockets this summer when his contract ends and will potentially be of interest to the Dubs.

In an appearance on Tim Kawakami's podcast the "TK Show", Haynes said: “I’m going to throw one name out there. He’d have to take a tremendous pay cut, but I think at the end of the day he wants to win.

"If you’re trying to bring in somebody, a wing player, who’s durable … a proven vet … Trevor Ariza. I think would fit tremendously. I’m not sure he’s going to sign back in Houston.

Ariza was an important part of a Rockets team that secured an NBA-best 65-17 record and took the Warriors to seven games in the Western Conference Finals.

It won't go down well in Houston if the 32-year-old decides to join their rivals but the reality is that the Texas-based franchise potentially can't afford to keep him.

The swingman made $7.8 million with the Rockets last year but would have to accept a deal worth a little more than $4m with Golden State.

This is just a rumour at this stage but if Houston is unable to re-sign him, the Warriors would surely look into the possibility of landing the NBA champion.

Adding him to their star-studded roster would be a significant coup for the Bay Area outfit. He averaged 11.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game this season and hit 36.8 percent of his three-pointers.

His size, length and shooting ability would make him an obvious fit and provide head coach Steve Kerr with another player who can slot perfectly into a small ball lineup as he showed with the Rockets.

There have been no indications about this move happening but it's definitely one worth keeping an eye on as we approach free agency.
