Nabil Fekir's proposed move to Liverpool is dead - at least until after the World Cup anyway.Despite talks being at an advanced stage on Friday and Liverpool agreeing terms with Lyon, a club statement was released on Saturday saying negotiations were over."Transfer negotiations with Liverpool and Nabil Fekir have not succeeded and Olympique Lyonnais has decided to put an end to this negotiation tonight," it read."Olympique Lyonnais are delighted to count on our captain for the 2018/19 season."It came as a damaging blow to Liverpool, who have made a fantastic start to the summer transfer window but are yet to replace Philippe Coutinho.Of course, there is still hope. According to the Mirror's David Maddock, the Fekir deal is isn't completely dead and the Frenchman is still very much keen to join Liverpool. But Liverpool will now have to wait until the 2018 World Cup finishes in July to make another move for Fekir, in which time a lot can happen. What's frustrated Liverpool fans most is how everything was so close to completion. Fekir had not only completed a medical but he had also given an interview as a new signing. For now it's dream over for Fekir, though, and he actually came a lot closer to joining Liverpool than everyone thinks.According to L'Equipe, per the reliable @DaveOCKOP, Fekir had even chosen his shirt number before the deal collapsed.

How sad is that? Nothing has yet emerged about how Fekir feels about his move to Liverpool being cancelled, but you can imagine he's not happy.

And if he has a good World Cup for France, there's a good chance Liverpool will have to pay a lot more than £50 million for his services.
