The future of Gareth Bale has been a big talking point for a while now.

Despite regularly looking brilliant when he appears for Real Madrid, Zinedine Zidane - who has now left the club - was reluctant to play him in the big games.

The Frenchman left Bale out of the starting lineup for the Champions League final vs Liverpool, with the Welshman then coming off the bench to score two goals to win the game.

You can understand why he's frustrated, particularly as he is always in the shadows of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Given his enormous wages, there are only a select number of clubs in the world that could actually afford to bring Bale in this summer.

Manchester United are one who could certainly match his needs, particularly after they handed Alexis Sanchez a contract worth close to £500,000-a-week.

And then there's Bayern Munich, who are actively looking for players to succeed Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben out on the flanks.

However, Bale has now made a big decision with regards to interest from the German champions.

As reported by the Mirror, the Welshman has actively told the Bundesliga giants that if he does leave Madrid this summer, he will only move to the Premier League.

In a nutshell, that makes United pretty much the only plausible destination.

Manchester City have no need to buy him, Chelsea can't offer him Champions League football and the rest of the top six simply cannot afford him.

Nevertheless, a lot depends on Real's new manager and whether he will look to keep Bale and offer him the kind of involved role that he is desperately craving.

Should Ronaldo stay and someone like Neymar is brought into the fold, the Welshman will surely not stick around much longer, particularly following what he said after the Champions League final.

"I need to be playing week in, week out, and that has not happened this season," he told BT Sport in Kiev. "I had an injury five, six weeks in but fit ever since. I have to sit down with my agent in the summer and discuss it."

There could be some big developments in Bale's future this summer.
