Although CM Punk has put his professional wrestling career behind him, those that watched him carve a name for himself on both the independent scene and WWE were carefully tuning in to see how Saturday night would unfold for him in Chicago, Illinois.Fighting in his hometown, Punk was returning after a 19-month hiatus for only his second professional MMA fight at UFC 225, taking on Mike Jackson who - like Punk - came into the night with a 0-1 record and also lost to Mickey Gall in the first round.

DEFEAT

After a poor showing, Punk succumbed to a second defeat and has been in line for some harsh criticism from UFC fans. They're annoyed that he took up a valuable spot on the main card, they don't believe he deserved a tremendous opportunity like that with little experience and they simply weren't happy to pay good money to receive a performance like that.

WWE has done a good job of trying to distance themselves from Punk in recent years. That's if you ignore the lawsuit earlier this week - which Punk had won - along with the public jokes we've heard about him on Monday Night RAW by the likes of Stephanie McMahon and Elias.

However, Corey Graves has decided to be the first to react to Punk's loss, and he didn't mince his words when he sent Twitter into meltdown with some interesting tweets which haven't exactly gone down well with fans.

Graves initially tweeted: "Maybe abandoning everybody who stood by your side, even when we weren't supposed to, only to have you turn your back on us wasn't the right move after all? No anger. Only sadness."

VERBAL ATTACK

Clearly, the not-so-subtle was aimed at Punk as the timing was perfect. This then snowballed into something much more significant with Graves revealing just why he was taking shots at Punk, while also dragging in names like Vince McMahon, Kenny Omega and Triple H.

He even offered to fight Punk.

For Graves, it all boils down to the fact that he was snubbed by Punk after the latter had quit the WWE and supposedly lost him as a friend - especially since Graves was one who publicly showed respect to Punk following his first defeat in the UFC.

This matter does seem quite personal, so it's no surprise as to why fans aren't pleased that Graves has made it all so public and continued to bash Punk for the world to see.

If anything, Vince and Triple H might be laughing somewhere at the entire situation.
