When it comes to meteoric rises in football, few compare to what Trent Alexander-Arnold has achieved at Liverpool over the past two years.

Since making his senior debut in October 2016 the 19-year-old has become first-choice right-back, signed a new long-term contract and reached the Champions League final.

Add to that making England's squad for this summer's World Cup and you could hardly blame Alexander-Arnold for pinching himself to make sure he isn't dreaming.

He has a huge future ahead of him, which Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard actually predicted in his autobiography, 'My Story'.

"Trent has a terrific chance of making it as a top professional," wrote Gerrard. "He's quite leggy but he's got a lovely frame and seems to have all the attributes you need. He has the right attitude.

"He can play as a number six, a holding midfielder, but he's versatile and I've seen him fill various positions. I know England are all over him."

Alexander-Arnold is a star in the making and much will depend on how grounded he stays in the coming years if he's going to reach his potential.

THE FUTURE OF LIVERPOOL

Far too many players his age show promise but eventually fade away as the glamour of Premier League football takes over.

However, a recent report from the Daily Mail suggests Alexander-Arnold's head is very much screwed on at Liverpool.

Despite being a guaranteed starter for the Reds nowadays, the Englishman still cleans his own boots at the end of every game.

He and best friend Ben Woodburn have also been nicknamed 'The Pups' by Liverpool teammates, which they like because it shows where they stand.

"Alexander-Arnold is best friends with Ben Woodburn and they are together so much that the senior members of the squad have christened them 'The Pups'," the report states.

"It is a tag the pair, who still clean their own boots, have encouraged as they appreciate their standing within the group.

"The moment training begins you see the difference. Alexander-Arnold might still be in his teens but he believes he should be on the pitch and is not flustered by reputation."

Seems Gerrard was right all along. Alexander-Arnold and Woodburn both have the tools they need to succeed at Liverpool, not to mention the right mentality.
