Steve Kerr has just finished the fourth year of his five-year, $25 million deal as head coach of the Golden State Warriors, and it would be surprising to not see him coach this team beyond the last year of his current contract.

He has now won his third NBA championship in the last four years, but he has also been dealing with some health problems over the same time period that has affected his coaching. He didn't miss time this season, but he has missed time in each of the previous two seasons.

Kerr missed time due to health issues stemming from complications following back surgery in 2015. He is still bothered by those symptoms, but he's been able to manage them better this season.

Kerr told ESPN Radio after Friday's game, via ESPN: "The job and my family carry me through. There's a lot of difficulties when you have some health issues, and it's not easy. But when you have something to be excited about when you wake up in the morning and you have a great family like I do, it's all worth it."

Despite his health issues, many people believe Kerr has done more than enough to warrant a contract extension with the Warriors, and the team's owner, Joe Lacob, feels exactly the same way when he spoke to ESPN.

New Deal

He said after the Warriors swept the Cleveland Cavaliers 4-0 in the NBA Finals: "We'll get it done this summer. Let him rest a little bit. But we'll get it done. He wants to be with us. We want him long term.

"He obviously has some health issues he's still working through, but we'll get it done. I think as long as he feels comfortable doing it long term, we want him."

Lacob wants Kerr back with the Warriors beyond next season, and it sounds like Kerr himself wants to be with the team beyond 2019 as well. So long as he keeps on winning championships like he is doing, there's no reason for Golden State to part ways.
