It's clear that Daniel Bryan isn't a superstar who goes around asking for massive opportunities. Instead, he tends to excel and impress in any feud or match he's thrown in - just take a look at his most recent promo on Big Cass as part of their underwhelming storyline for proof.

Still, hearing fans beg the WWE to give Bryan something more worthwhile isn't anything new. Like Bryan, the fans have had to fight to see someone as relatable as Bryan reach the pinnacle in WWE, and that's the level they want to see the former SmackDown LIVE general manager reach again.

BOOKING

Believe it or not, the direction some WWE stars have gone in over the past few years boil down to Bryan and the way he was handled by the WWE.

Fans desperately wanted Bryan to win the Royal Rumble in 2014, but as we know, Bryan was pinned by Bray Wyatt earlier in the evening and wasn't a part of the main event. His exclusion not only saw the toxic reaction towards Batista taken to new heights, but even someone as likeable as Rey Mysterio - who was the final entrant - received enormous heat when fans were hoping that, somehow, Bryan would be in his place.

In 2015, Bryan only lasted 11 minutes when fans fully expected to him - with The Eater of World the obstacle again - only for Roman Reigns to win the match and the Philadelphia crowd let him hear it. Perhaps that was what initially kicked off the current jeers we hear towards The Big Dog.

Bryan, though, knew the way he was booked in the 2015 Royal Rumble was a mistake.

When he was interviewed by Inside the Ropes, Bryan revealed that he warned WWE that being eliminated so quickly in the Royal Rumble wouldn't work out well for the company and in the long run, he might have been right as Reigns still isn't being embraced by WWE fans.

WARNING

According to Wrestling Inc, he said: "When they told me what was going to happen, I was like, 'This isn't gonna work out well for you guys. But, you can do what you want.'

"Like, I don't run the company, right? If it's bad - I feel bad for certain people who were negatively affected by that. The year before, 2014, Batista was negatively affected by it.

"So like, I always try to say like, 'Hey, I think this is gonna happen,' and sometimes I'm right, sometimes I'm wrong. But I think, like in that specific case, like I had said that, like I don't think this is a good idea, and it doesn't matter what I think, right?

"And so, I just go out there, and I do my job, and I play the hand that I'm dealt with."

Obviously, Reigns being booed isn't 100% because of Bryan.

The combination of fans not liking his booking, his ability over the years, the endless opportunities and being 'force-fed' have resulted in the former Shield member fighting what seems to be a losing battle.

Still, it's interesting to think what could have happened with both Reigns and Bryan if the latter was booked a lot better in the 2015 Royal Rumble, but Bryan knew things wouldn't work out well for one superstar the WWE picked.
