What an incredible season it’s been for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Playing for his boyhood club, the 19-year-old has made the right-back slot his own and helped Liverpool reach the Champions League final.

His performances during the run - especially in the two matches against Manchester City in the quarter-finals - were very impressive and, despite the result, he performed admirably in the final against Real Madrid.

And to round it all off, he was deservedly called up to England’s World Cup squad this summer.

And the young right-back believes one Liverpool teammate has played a big role in his development.

While James Milner won’t be in Russia after retiring from International football, the 32-year-old is being credited for Alexander-Arnold’s rise - by the player himself.

ALEXANDER-ARNOLD THANKS JAMES MILNER

"James has taught me a lot," Alexander-Arnold said.

"Like me, he also came through really young, and he's always there if I need to go to someone.

"It's important to have those players around you.

"At Liverpool, he is one of the players who have been really successful in their career. He knows how to win things and how it's done.

"He's been a huge help to me this season.

"He always comes up to me before a big game and tells me just to keep playing the way I play, not change my game too much.

"That's one of the things that has really hit home for me, just to play how I play and not change for anyone."

Nathaniel Clyne would probably have been Klopp’s first choice in right-back last season but his long-term injury gave Alexander-Arnold the opportunity to show off his ability.

And the scouser did exactly that, playing 33 matches in all competitions in total.

And despite Clyne coming back to fitness ahead of next season, Alexander-Arnold has surely done enough to keep that ‘Number 2’ position.
