LeBron James will have the next three weeks to contemplate his future with the Cleveland Cavaliers as he's set to hit free agency on July 1.
After suffering a Finals sweep against the Golden State Warriors, there is a real doubt that he will choose to remain with his hometown team and could look to depart again like he did in 2010.
Speaking after the series loss to the Warriors, James admitted he has "no idea at this point" what he will do.
Rumours continue to do the rounds around the NBA about where the four-time MVP will be playing his basketball next season.
LeBron stated that any decision he makes will be heavily influenced by his family but he also admitted that he still has a desire to win as many championships as possible before he retires.
“I still want to be in championship mode,” James said. “I think I’ve shown this year why I will still continue to be in championship mode.”
Striking a balance
It's clear that the King will look to find the right balance between competing for more rings and providing the best life for himself and his family.
One man who has been an influential figure in the 33-year-old's decision-making process in the past has been former teammate and close friend Dwyane Wade.
The Miami Heat veteran also understands the pressure involved in making a decision like this and recently outlined what he believes will ultimately determine what LBJ chooses to do in free agency.
In an interview on Fox Sports Radio with Chris Mannix and Caron Butler he said: “To me, I don’t think it’s a basketball thing. Obviously, you saw this year he can get to the Finals no matter what the circumstances are.
"I don’t really think the basketball decision of saying, ‘Oh, let me go team up with three All-Stars.’ I think at this point in his life, it’s more so of a lifestyle thing of where my family is going to be the most comfortable and where I’m going to be the most happiest at.
"Because basketball wise, he’s so great that he can bring along and take along whoever.”
In terms of lifestyle, the Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers would appear to be the frontrunners as those are the cities where he resides with his family during the regular season and the summer.
But there are still likely to be many other factors that he'll weigh up before deciding which team he'll represent next year.
He'll have several options to choose from and the focus of the entire NBA world will be on the 14-time All-Star in the coming weeks.
