Much of the talk following the Canadian GP on Sunday revolved around the embarrassing premature chequered flag fiasco that somewhat overshadowed Sebastian Vettel's dominant victory.

Winnie Harlow was told to wave the flag one lap too soon, forcing organisers to treat the incident like a red flag and the 69th lap was discounted, despite no changes within the top-10 actually taking place.

However, it meant Daniel Ricciardo missed out on achieving the fastest lap of the race, having set it during the discounted circuit of the track.

To make matters worse, Ricciardo didn't realise his rapid lap hadn't counted until during a live interview on Sky Sports after the race.

As you can see below, presenter Simon Lazenby broke the bad news to Ricciardo, who couldn't actually believe it.

Much to his disbelief, it was revealed his Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen had actually registered the quickest time.

Upon hearing what Ricciardo thought was a glaring mistake, he quickly chimed in saying "I think it went to me, no I think it went to me bro" with a very upbeat smile on his face.

Ricciardo's face when from upbeat to playfully shocked as he was certain he was to claim the award after finishing the 69th lap as the holder of the fastest lap.

"Think that's you? See, it says there, look," Lazenby said - just to make it crystal clear that Ricciardo had definitely missed out on the accolade.

Talk about awkward...

Ricciardo's face was an absolute picture. He might have had a few words to say to Winnie Harlow afterwards for depriving him of the fastest lap.

Regardless, Vettel's win has taken him above Lewis Hamilton in the drivers' championship meanwhile Ricciardo remains 37 points behind the duo despite winning two races already this term.
