Tottenham Hotspur have started the summer about as well as they could have hoped.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino may have indicated that he was set to leave the club at first, but talks with Daniel Levy instead convinced him of Spurs' ambition, leading to a new deal for the Argentine.

On top of that, the other big summer-worry was the future of Harry Kane, only for all doubts to be erased as he committed to a new six-year deal earlier this week.

Now Dele Alli is supposedly close to a long-term deal, too, while Christian Eriksen has been offered one.

It all comes together as the perfect foundation for an exciting summer at Tottenham - now they just need some signings.

And with ambition being the target, the likes of Anthony Martial and Wilfried Zaha have been linked as players who would give the team the push needed to compete for trophies.

For now, however, there appears to be another name at the top of the list.

Barcelona's Rafinha is being targeted by Pochettino and co. as an ideal addition to the Tottenham midfield, reports Sport.

The Brazilian would slot in nicely as a replacement for Mousa Dembele as the Belgian continues to be linked with a move away from the club.

Any deal for Rafinha would be tricky, though, as his loan deal with Internazionale last season included a €35m purchase clause.

Only Inter aren't able to pay that much now and hope to talk Barcelona down - giving Spurs an opportunity.

If Inter pay up, then Tottenham haven't got a chance, but any potential lowering of the fee would instead put them in pole position.

The Italians are set to meet with Barcelona later this week to discuss a new fee and will find their bargaining position to be a lot weaker now that there's another team willing to pay the full price.

So Tottenham will have to play the waiting game - but the longer it goes on, the better their chances will be.
