Liverpool fans suffered transfer heartache a few days ago as a move for Nabil Fekir seemingly fell through.

Jurgen Klopp looked as if he was going to finally get his replacement for Philippe Coutinho, with terms agreed between Liverpool and Lyon on a £53million transfer.

Fekir was reported to have even picked out his shirt number at the Merseyside club.

However, for whatever reason, the deal fell through on Saturday as Lyon confirmed that negotiations between the two clubs for the transfer of the 24-year-old had 'not succeeded'.

It was expected that Liverpool would move on to other targets, with names such as Moses Simon and Xherdan Shaqiri being touted.

However, there could be another major twist in the Fekir saga yet.

According to the Mirror, the transfer remains a possibility, despite suggestions that the deal would never come to fruition.

Fekir is said to still be 'desperate' for the move, while Klopp is still 'keen' for a deal to be put in place.

The report concludes by stating that the deal rests on Lyon's president, Jean-Michel Aulas, coming up with an agreement to bring Liverpool back to the table.

The full report reads: "Fekir remains a possibility too – despite suggestions the transfer is stone dead.

"As the deal stood when Lyon called a formal halt to negotiations in a statement on Sunday, Liverpool could not proceed.

"Lyon though, have looked at ways of restructuring the terms of the £53million transfer, which would reflect concerns relating to knee surgery the France international underwent.

"The onus is now on their president Jean-Michel Aulas to come up with an agreement which can bring Liverpool back to the table, and while that remains a distant prospect, it is not impossible with the player still desperate for an Anfield switch, and Klopp still keen."

Interesting. This is the saga that seems to have no ending.

Liverpool fans can still cling onto the hope that they get Fekir at some point in the summer.

If they were to somehow resurrect the deal, what a signing he could turn out to be.
