Last Saturday, CM Punk stepped into the Octagon for the second, and perhaps last time.

He was fighting Mike Jackson - a fellow welterweight amateur, who also lost his first UFC fight to Mickey Gall.

Ahead of the bout, both men were hoping for the chance to prove that they belong in MMA.

Unfortunately, Punk did not take his opportunity. He lost to Jackson on a unanimous round three decision - but realistically, he did well to last to the end.

TAKING IT EASY

Arguably, Jackson should have finished the fight long before it concluded after three grueling rounds.

“Truth” was dominating from almost the first moment - and it looked at times like he was taking it easy on Punk.

And the attitude Jackson showed throughout the night didn’t sit well with UFC president Dana White.

In fact, following the bout, White had more praise for Punk, who he said showed great heart, while branding his opponent a “complete idiot” for how he acted on the night.

As far as White is concerned, both fighters should call it a day on their UFC careers - as Punk went 0-2 and looked far out of his depth, while the president clearly doesn’t want to work with Jackson again in the future.

THE PAYDAY

Even though it ultimately seems that Punk has failed with his venture into the UFC, the amount of money he’s getting paid for Saturday's fight alone will certainly make the experience well worth it.

According to The Sports Daily, the former WWE star will pocket a huge $503,500 for his loss.

Although only an estimate, he'll apparently be paid $500,000 for showing up, and $3,500 on top of that for fight week incentive pay.

Jackson, on the other hand, did not have that big a payday, despite winning the fight.

He'll make around $23,500, which breaks down as $10,000 to show up, $10,000 in win bonuses and a $3,500 fight week incentive pay.

The Sports Daily note though, that they're only estimated figures because the Illinois State Athletic Commission won't be releasing the exact pay for each fighter.

However, based on official purse information released from past fights, the website has been able to make an accurate estimation  - and it's not good reading for Jackson at all.
