Jose Mourinho has wasted little time in bolstering his Manchester United squad.

The Red Devils have already confirmed the arrival of 19-year-old full-back Diogo Dalot in a £19 million deal from Porto.

And an agreement has been reached to sign midfielder Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Mourinho is fully aware of the need to improve his squad after finishing 19 points behind Manchester City last season.

Rest assured, there will be more arrivals to come.

A new centre-back is on the wishlist and Raphael Varane and Kalidou Koulibaly are among the players being considered.

But there’s one defender who we can rule out of a move to Old Trafford.

Man United pull out of deal

According to the Mirror, Mourinho is no longer interested in signing Danny Rose from Tottenham Hotspur.

Man United have been linked with Rose for some time now - he was close to a £50 million move last year - but Mourinho has told executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward that the 27-year-old is no longer a priority.

The Portuguese coach believes he has enough options at left-back, with Dalot, Luke Shaw and Ashley Young fighting for the starting spot.

The news will come as a blow to Rose, who was eager to sign for Man United.

The England international has publicly expressed a desire to move north to be closer to his family.

“I will say this too, I will play up north,” Rose told The Sun last August.

“I don’t know exactly when but I will get back up north and play some football somewhere.

“I am going to make it my priority before I retire to play football up there.”

A move to Man United would have allowed Rose to be closer to his family and to play for one of world football’s elite clubs.

However, his dream move won’t be happening.

Mourinho believes he needs to strengthen his squad in other areas and a new centre-back is of much greater importance.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the club have cooled their interested in signing Rose’s teammate Toby Alderweireld.

But a centre-back remains a priority and you can expect the club to spend a considerable sum on signing one.
