World Cup fever has already captured millions of football fans around the world. We’re less than 24 hours away from the tournament kicking off in Russia and we just can’t wait.Even England fans are excited. The Three Lions have had a pretty wretched record in international tournaments in recent years but there’s a real belief that Gareth Southgate’s side can do the nation proud.England have to wait until Monday to get their campaign underway as they face a tough test against Tunisia. But who will be named in Southgate’s starting XI for the game?Numerous ex-players and pundits have had a go and naming their own England XI ahead of the match and Rio Ferdinand is the latest to do just that.

RIO FERDINAND NAMES HIS ENGLAND XI

Speaking to Joe.co.uk, Ferdinand was asked to name his starting line-up and this is what he came up with:

Goalkeeper | Jordan Pickford

Centre-back | Kyle Walker
Centre-back | John Stones
Centre-back | Harry Maguire

Wing-back | Trent Alexander-Arnold
Wing-back | Ashley Young

Midfield | Jordan Henderson
Midfield | Jesse Lingard
Midfield | Dele Alli

Striker | Raheem Sterling
Striker | Harry Kane

Ferdinand finished it off with “That team wins the f***ing World Cup, bruv!”

We’re not sure it does, Rio, but it’s a pretty decent looking line-up to be fair.

He’s certainly sprung a surprise by picking Alexander-Arnold instead of Kieran Trippier.

Having said that, the 19-year-old has had a fantastic campaign for Liverpool and must be pushing Trippier close for a starting berth.

Whether Southgate agrees with Ferdinand or not will be discovered in just five days time…
