Tyson Fury is back.

After almost three years of waiting, boxing fans got the opportunity to see the lineal heavyweight champion in action once again last week. Under the lights of the Manchester Arena, Fury dusted off the ring rust against career cruiserweight Sefer Seferi.

The bout was far from entertaining and Fury showboated during the opening rounds, but he got off to a winning return when Seferi retired on his stool after the fourth round.

The 29-year-old will return to action at Windsor Park in August and fight fans will be hoping he exchanges leather with a far more challenging opponent.

Fans want a ranked heavyweight at the very least with Luis Ortiz even offering to fight.

Tyson Fury's comeback is on

After all, the very point of Fury's return is to challenge Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder for the belts he won after his victory over Wladimir Klitschko in 2015.

And while he remains a work in progress at the moment, it's up for debate as to whether Fury could pull it off when he loses an extra stone and rediscovers the old magic.

Various pundits and fans will give you different predictions but one man who has waded into the debate recently is none other than Mike Tyson.

Mike Tyson on Fury's comeback

'Iron Mike' is widely regarded as one of the greatest heavyweight fighters of all time and has previously enjoyed light-hearted exchanges with Fury on social media.

Tyson was attending the International Boxing Hall of Fame this weekend when he was asked about Fury by Randy Gordon from Sires/XM.

According to BadLeftHook, Gordon asked: “Do you think 6’9“ Tyson Fury can become a force again in the heavyweight division?”

To that, Tyson answered: “I think he could beat Deontay Wilder.

“He’s just made for the guy, you know what I mean? Tyson’s very awkward, (Wilder’s) not used to fighting a guy that awkward or that big either.”

Very interesting indeed.

It's intriguing to note that Tyson answered by declaring Fury's superiority to Wilder, which is quite the compliment by itself, but made no mention of Joshua.

Tyson has never made a secret of the fact he's a fan of Fury, but even he might temper his answer if he took a closer look at the Seferi fight.

Boxing fans and ex-fighters will have to see how the 'Gypsy King' fares in his next few fights to establish just how he'll get on at world championship level.

He has no shortage of believers, though, and Mike Tyson isn't a bad man to have on board.

As far as fighting Wilder is concerned, anyway...
