Liverpool are willing to spend around £10 million to bring West Ham striker Carlton Cole to Anfield, according to ESPN Soccernet.
However, they are not willing to pay anywhere near the Hammers’ valuation of the 26-year-old – as the Irons are holding out for £15 million.
Stoke boss Tony Pulis had previously been willing to spend a substantial amount on the England international but were turned down by Avram Grant.
Having brought on a number of players this summer, West Ham are reportedly now looking to offload a few and Roy Hodgson will test their resolve with a bigger offer than the Potters’.
And Cole, despite being happy at the Boleyn Ground, would find it hard to resist an offer from Liverpool.
An insider told ESPN: “Carlton would like a move to Liverpool, but they are short on funds as everyone knows.”
If the proposed takeover does happen then there is a good chance the Merseysiders will be able to offer the asking price for the former Chelsea striker.
