Clouded in manager uncertainty, Chelsea are still yet to make any new signings this summer.

Italian boss Antonio Conte was expected to be sacked after falling out with Chelsea board but the Blues seem unwilling to stump up £9m in compensation.

Former Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri is reportedly waiting in the wings but the 59-year-old is still contracted to the Serie A club.

Chelsea would have to pay Napoli upwards of £5m to bring Sarri to Stamford Bridge.

He challenged Juventus for the Serie A title this season but was recently replaced by Carlo Ancelotti amid speculation surrounding a move to London.

But it could end up being a disastrous summer window if Chelsea are unable to sort this soon - the transfer deadline is on August 9.

The Blues, who finished fifth this season, need to strengthen their squad if they intend to return to the top four next season.

Chelsea want Juventus defender

According to the Mirror, Chelsea are no longer waiting to sort out their manager situation to dip into the transfer market.

They are reportedly lining up a bid for Juventus centre-back Daniele Rugani, who is well-liked by both Conte and Sarri.

The Old Lady won't be eager to sell the Italian international but they could be tempted by a big-money offer.

Rugani was signed by Conte during his time at Juventus and went on to win his first international cap under the current Chelsea manager.

And Sarri also has a positive relationship with the highly-rated defender.

Rugani, 23, made a name for himself during his two-year loan spell at Empoli playing under Sarri.

Amid Chelsea's interest, Rugani's agent Davide Torchia met with Juventus director of sport Fabio Paratici on Thursday - but he insisted that no formal offers had been received.

“I know that nobody will believe me, but I met with Paratici because it was already scheduled. I didn’t know there was going to be this storm the day before,” agent Torchia told Sportitalia.

“We talked about how to improve the player and what to do going forward, but we didn’t set up any negotiations.”

"Daniele has never been offered to anyone, let alone Lazio. We can’t say for sure in life that the player is off the market completely, but we can confirm no formal offers have arrived.

“He is happy to be there and Juve are happy with him. It was purely a coincidence we had this meeting after those reports. I can assure you we did not talk about Chelsea.”
