For the second straight summer, Antoine Griezmann’s future has dominated the back pages. The 27-year-old was linked with a move to Manchester United in 2017, even giving an interview on French television rating his chances of completing a move to the Premier League club as six out of 10.This time around, Barcelona were the club with an interest in signing Griezmann. If any club had a chance to lure the Frenchman away from the Wanda Metropolitano, it would appear to be the La Liga champions. But once again, Griezmann has decided to stay in Madrid. The forward announced his decision on Thursday in the form of a video documentary. In the video, Griezmann seeks advice from his brother and father, strokes his horses and plays basketball with his sibling. Yes, it’s that bizarre.

How Barca players have reacted

It’s a huge blow to Barcelona's board, who were very confident that Griezmann would join them.

The rejection hasn't led to a negative reaction from the players, though, who believe the manner of Griezmann's announcement, and the fact that he used Barcelona to create a show, isn't the correct behaviour of a Barca player.

That is according to Sport, who add that the dressing room is celebrating Griezmann's decision. "Now someone else will come in," the players are saying.

They don't like drama queens at the Camp Nou. Some of Neymar and Dani Alves' celebrations were considered over the top, and a low profile is preferred.

That's why the players aren't concerned that Griezmann won't be arriving.

Indeed, there remains great optimism that Ousmane Dembele can live up to the hype.

For those unsure on why Griezmann would reject Barcelona and stay at a club that hasn’t been able to compete with Spain’s top two clubs for a few years, the player can see signs of ambition at the Wanda Metropolitano.

"They are doing everything they can to keep Atletico growing and so that they can play the Champions League final, hopefully at home [in 2019],” Griezmann said.

"They are making an effort to bring top players. This is going to make a difference."

An agreement has been reached to sign Thomas Lemar from AS Monaco and Diego Simeone will be planning more arrivals.

Will Griezmann come to regret his decision? Only time will tell.
